In January 2020, Lions FC Girls came into existence, fueled by the dreams and passion of a group of young girls, aged 8-10 years old, from Berkeley International School in Bangkok. Under the leadership of Coach Joe, Lions FC teams were founded.
The spark that ignited this flame was the unwavering desire to create greater opportunities for girls to play football in their city. Despite being beginners then, these girls were determined to improve and make their mark on the football field.
The first six months of their journey were met with challenges as the pandemic restricted their progress. When COVID hit in 2020, playing at school was not possible. Nevertheless, they seized every opportunity to train, never allowing setbacks to dampen their spirits. Their training group grew and evolved, encompassing both girls and boys, as they encouraged each other to play together harmoniously. Soccer Pro Bangna fields became their home ground, where they honed their skills and nurtured their love for the game.
A pivotal moment arrived when Lions FC Girls had the opportunity for a practice match against the prestigious Juventus academy, which was also based at Soccer Pro Bangna. The exhilaration and determination they felt during that match ignited a burning desire within them to compete against other academies and play more challenging matches. Additionally, they stood proudly as the only truly mixed-gender team in Bangkok, boasting an equal mix of girls and boys.
As time went on, the club expanded its horizons and welcomed more than 16 players into its ranks. In 2021, the club underwent restructuring and began playing as separate girls’ and boys’ teams—Lions FC Girls and Lions FC Boys.

Journey to Success
TEAMWORK
Finding matches, particularly during the pandemic when most clubs and schools ceased playing, became an ongoing challenge for Lions FC Girls. However, their indomitable spirit prevailed. They persevered, training twice a week, and played against any club or school that would join them on the field, even venturing to other provinces in pursuit of their passion. The girls’ squad grew to include 12 talented players, forming a remarkably balanced team united by a common objective—to achieve success.
In the 2021/2022 season, Lions FC Girls showcased their determination and skill by participating in over 20 matches. Against all odds, they emerged triumphant, winning their first tournament and defeating numerous larger schools along the way. It was a testament to their hard work, commitment, and sheer talent.
The summer of 2022 marked a turning point for the club. A new management structure was implemented, and a head coach was appointed to guide the team forward. The transformation was astounding. Lions FC Girls grew from strength to strength, developing a distinct and formidable style of play characterized by fast-flowing attacking football and a solid, well-organized defensive structure.
In the 2022/23 season, Lions FC Girls faced their biggest challenges, engaging in over 40 matches against various schools and academies. Undeterred, they conquered three consecutive tournaments, outperforming some of Thailand’s most prominent and formidable school teams. Their journey even took them beyond national borders as they participated in their first international tournament, competing against teams from Singapore and Hongkong.
The history of Lions FC Girls reads like a captivating tale from a storybook—the chronicle of a group of friends who, with little prior football experience, devoted themselves to relentless training, transforming into one of Bangkok’s most successful teams within a mere three years. Their accomplishments can be attributed to the remarkable culture that permeates the club, from the dedicated players on the pitch to the selfless volunteer-based club management.

When Coach Joe founded Lions FC in 2020 he set himself a GOAL: That Lions FC Girls will become a strong Team within 3 Years in Thailand that can compete with other Teams. What was needed was a committed, passionate, well-disciplined Team with support from Parents to achieve such a Goal. We will continue to follow our Goals in Life and shoot Goals in the Game of Football
